About Me

Hello. I am a certified Death Doula, an End-of-life Planner. What it means is that I am comfortable to sit and hold a conversation and create a plan for the here & after of this life that brings you peace of mind & that expresses your final wishes.

What is a Death Doula?

A Death Doula or End-of-life Planner, supports individuals by holding space for conversations and actions related to death and dying.

What Do We Do?

We work with you, your team of medical professionals, family, and friends.

to offer support in each of the four areas; physical comfort, mental and emotional needs, spiritual requests, and practical tasks.

Our Services

Consultation

Getting to know you

Our consultations give us the opportunity to listen to the needs and wants of potential clients. Through this conversation we can assess the types of services the client is asking for and determine how best the services can be provided. We follow up each consultation with an email outlining what we can provide and the fees for said services. In this follow up email, we also include referrals to needs and/or requests that we don’t provide to ensure that all of your requests are met.

Personal Directives

Advocating your wishes

This is our specialty. Together, we create a detailed health directive that includes the directive of the Alberta Health Services Green Sleeve and an appendix to that which outlines your wishes of the care received at home, in the hospital and after death. This form is shared with family, doctors, and professional care team.

Appointment Aid

Taking Notes on your behalf

When we are faced with grief, memory and understanding is compromised. We offer to be your ears at medical appointments, palliative care meetings and funeral arrangements. We meet you at the location and take notes on your behalf. This ensures that what is being told to you is understood and allows you to have a written transaction to refer to.

Resources

Connecting you to support

Caregiving is a 24-hour job. We understand the need for you to always be with your loved one and the guilt of needing your own time to rest that accompanies many. We offer to visit with your loved one so that you may ‘refresh’. These visits can include such activities as chatting with your loved one or reading to them or just sitting next to them.

There are many services, resources and community support groups. We are happy to connect you to what may benefit your journey.

Hospital Visits

Checking in when you can't

We are happy to visit your loved one at the hospital or care centre. We provide an email of how the visit went and if there were any questions from hospital staff related to your loved one while we were there to ensure that you are in contact with what is going on even when you are not there.

Soul Planning

What is your legacy?

This is very important to us. Legacy is all about what needs or wants to be done, said, or experienced prior to death. For your loved one and for you when your loved one leaves. We work with you and your loved one in a confidential one-to-one conversation to ensure that ‘last wishes’ and ‘lasting wishes’ are put into place wherever possible. This important work helps your loved one leave this earth with fewer regrets and leaves you with ideas to help you with grief.

Coping with Loss

Sitting with your pain

We know of the pain that losing a loved one brings. We are not counsellors, but we do offer a buddy-support concept that can be helpful as you wade through all the shock and tasks related to losing a loved one.
